Sclerotherapy FAQs

What is sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment used to reduce the appearance of unwanted leg veins. A specialized solution is injected into the affected vein, causing it to collapse and gradually be absorbed by the body over time.

What types of veins can be treated?

Sclerotherapy is most effective for:

• Spider veins

• Reticular veins (blue-green veins beneath the skin)

• Small varicose veins

Larger varicose veins may require alternative treatment options, which your provider will discuss during your consultation.

Is the procedure painful?

Most patients experience only mild discomfort during treatment. You may feel a brief burning, stinging, or cramping sensation as the solution is injected.

How long does treatment take?

Treatment sessions typically last 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the number and size of the veins being treated.

When will I see results?

Results develop gradually as the treated veins are absorbed by the body.

Is there any downtime?

There is little to no downtime following treatment. Walking is encouraged immediately after your appointment. Compression stockings are typically recommended for several days to two weeks to support healing and improve results.

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding

• Have an active blood clot or deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

• Have certain circulatory conditions

• Have a known allergy to the sclerosant solution
